National Expert Offers Child Safety Training

Julie Novack, director of child safety and quality assurance with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, which is headquartered in Philadelphia, PA., presented an educational program in Tulsa on child safety for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma resource and program staff from across the state.

The program was designed to offer advice and examples that illustrate the well being of children in the program and to evaluate local child and youth protection efforts against best practices. Big Brothers Big Sisters is the nation’s premiere mentoring organization and considers child safety to be of primary importance.

The training reinforces the importance of the interaction between staff and potential volunteers to determine the viability of the volunteer as a Big Brother or Big Sister. Additionally, Big Brothers Big Sisters mandates ongoing support and interaction by trained staff with the child, volunteer and parent to ensure that the match is successful and thrives.
