Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma to be Honored at State Capitol
Tulsa, OK—Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma (BBBSOK) will be recognized during the House of Representatives legislative session at the State Capitol on February 24, 2010. Big Brothers Big Sisters of America recently named Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma 2009 Agency of the Year recognizing BBBSOK as the leader among the organization’s large agencies in the nation. The nationally-recognized award was accepted by CEO Sharla Hall Owens at the Big Brothers Big Sisters national conference in June 2009.
State Representative Pam Peterson will share the details of the award with the House of Representatives and honor Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma with a proclamation. Her message will not only recognize the agency for the award, but speak further to the need for more Oklahomans to becoming involved in mentoring with an emphasis in the need for men. Of the more than 400 children on the waiting list, 75% are boys.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters Agency of the Year award is based on judging specific criteria that exemplify excellence in sustained growth in the number and quality of children served as well as increased revenues. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma was chosen for the national award out of the more than 400 agencies across the United States.
“I am proud to be a part of an organization in Oklahoma committed to helping our children succeed,” said BBBSOK CEO Sharla Hall Owens. “This award says as much about our communities of supporters as it does about the agency itself. It is more important than ever that we recognize and support what works to help children stay in school and away from negative influences.”
