Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma chooses new Chief Executive Officer
The State Board of Directors for BBBSOK has just announced the hiring of Sharla Hall as the Chief Executive Officer. "The search committee conducted a six month nation-wide process resulting with Sharla as the top candidate. She begins her new position as CEO immediately. Both the Board and staff members are looking forward to working with Sharla as she continues the great success of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma," said Board Chair Dirk O'Hara.
Hall joined BBBSOK in 2006 as the Vice President of Resource Development. In February 2009 she was named the Interim CEO after John Jacobs, former CEO, retired.
Before coming to BBBSOK, Hall acquired 15 years of experience in fundraising for the non-profit sector. Before her work at BBBSOK, she served as Development Manager at the Philbrook Museum of Art.
Hall also served in development positions at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art in Shawnee, Oklahoma; as Associate Director of Institutional Advancement at St. Gregory's University in Shawnee and as Development Coordinator at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.
"I am honored and excited to be chosen to serve as the next CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma! It is thrilling to have this opportunity to create even greater momentum for BBBSOK and to continue to work with such a talented and committed team of individuals-our volunteers, donors, board members and staff," said Hall.
Hall also believes that since there are 1,000 children in Oklahoma waiting to find a mentor through BBBSOK, there is an urgency to do everything necessary to reach these children as quickly as possible.
"Together, I am confident and optimistic that we will be able to match all of these children, and more, to create powerful, positive and lasting changes in their lives and in our communities," said Hall
BBBSOK will serve over 2900 children in 2009 with a quality rating within the top six large agencies in the United States. The agency currently ranks above the national average in its program performance and is currently a Gold Standard Award winner for its growth in children served and fundraising efforts and for the effectiveness of its on-going match support provided to Bigs and Littles.
BBBSOK is recognized as the state's premiere youth mentoring organization for facilitating one-to-one mentoring relationships between children and caring volunteers through community based and site based programs. Independent research has proven that children with a Big Brother or Big Sister are less likely to use drugs, skip school or be involved in acts of violence, and have better relationships with family and friends.
