QuikTrip presents new Sports Buddies Program for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma

On Wednesday evening, June 10, 2009, QuikTrip announced its support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma and its partnership in the launch of the new BBBSOK Sports Buddies program. The game began at 7pm at Drillers Stadium where waiting Littles will be present and matched with employee volunteers from QuikTrip. Tulsa area Big Brother Josh Lamberton and his Little Brother Michael will also be there to throw out the first pitch of the game. Sports Buddies is a new program for BBBSOK volunteers and Littles who enjoy both spectator sports and participatory sports. It gives volunteers the opportunity to mentor a child while enjoying the activities that appeal to them most.

As a partner of BBBSOK Sports Buddies, QuikTrip will become a promoter of the program and sponsor for Sports Buddies activities and BBBSOK fundraisers like Bowl for Kids' Sake. This enables the organization to strengthen its program by providing funding for marketing, match activities, and fundraising events. QuikTrip has been a past supporter of BBBSOK and most recently served as presenting sponsor for Tulsa's Bowl for Kids' Sake events. The company also holds representation on the State Board of BBBSOK through QuikTrip Corporation's Vice President of Human Resources Kim Owen.

Of the nearly 200 kids ready and waiting to be matched, 2 out of 3 of them are young boys waiting for a Big Brother. The idea is to focus the mentoring relationship around a shared love of sports. Typical activities to do while mentoring may include playing or watching football, basketball, golf or baseball. Matches can also attend tennis trainings and games for the Tulsa Talons, 66ers, Drillers, or collegiate sporting events. Rock climbing, martial arts, fishing, bowling or swimming may also be possible activities.
